Shimano DA 9000 11sp - any compatibility with Campag 11sp?

spotted the new Shimano Dura Ace 9000 C24 TL (tubeless) wheelset with Merlin Cycles for about £650.00

I presume there is no chance of getting these to work with 11 speed Campag?

A member of the french "veloptimal" forum tried to use his Campagnolo 11s cassette with the new 9000 group. He said it was working perfectly.

There is a good chance that what you describe will work. I remember that Shimano's 10 s. cassettes were working fine with campagnolo 10s groupsets.

It certainly works, not as nice as the 9000 cassette however.

There's a substantial difference in the cog spacing between Shimano and Campy 10 speed (3.95mm/4.12mm), so mixing those two cassettes won't work all that well.

The difference will likely be far less with 11 speed, just because there's so little room for variation. Campy 11 cogs have the same thickness as Shimano 10, but the spacing is further reduced to 3.8mm.

Maybe someone who knows how to use calipers can report the actual cog thickness and spacing. Most reviews from those who test Shimano 11 only mention that the spacing is closer, but don't include any dimensions.

To work really well, the spacing difference should be no more than .1mm, since the error accumulates.

It looks promising, since the width of the total cassette stack is only 0.2mm wider with S11 (vs C11)... as I've been told. Seems very odd that we can't find detailed dimensions, though...

I guess the same applies for the reverse?

Am patiently waiting to find out what the deal with Chris King and 11speed is.... Thinking it could simply be Campag hub to fit Shimano 11speed?

I have already posted this a month a go.....

Just measured a 9000 cassette, the total height of the cassette is 39,6mm

So the cassette spacing should be 39,6mm - 1,6mm = 38mm / 10 = 3,8mm

Shimano 10-speed is 3,95, so a difference of 0,15mm per gear. Will not work very well.

But the difference between Campagnolo 11-speed (3,85mm) and Shimano 11-speed is just 0,05mm per gear, so that should work ok.

Campy spacing is 3.8mm, not 3.85mm. The cogs are 1.6mm and the spacers are 2.2mm. Of course those are the nominal dimensions and all parts have an allowable tolerance, that results in small variations.

You'll get more accurate results measuring the individual parts, or a riveted together group, rather than a whole cassette.

If Shimano 11 spacing is 3.8mm, then the match should be as perfect as possible, with Campy.

So should I be able to slap a dt Swiss shimano 9000 freehub on my LW standard and be good to go for using a 9000 cassette with my campy eps? I like the option of a 11-28 on the shimano.

Dumb question but here goes. I have a Parlee Z5sl currently built up with Dura Ace 11 (9000). Could I take the rear wheel of my bike built up with Campy 11 speed and expect to work of the bike with Dura Ace 9000? Waiting for comments.

Try it. As long as you make sure the limit screws are set correctly the worst that can happen is poor shifting.

I really hope this works, think of how much cheaper it will be to upgrade/ how much less expensive the all steel chorus cassettes will be than the 9000 cassettes. And no need to buy new wheels!! I love unintentional cross compatibility :D

Kinda answer to my own questions.

Chris King will be updating their R45 hub to work on DA9000 and they will release a conversion kit. This will occur in Jan/Feb 2013

I have used a campy 11 speed wheel in my 9000. shifting is 95% of the shimano setup.
