anyone know much about the Funk Cycles Sano frame?

i have a yearning for something a little left field (current thinking is spooky skeletor) and handbuilt...

i remember funk cycles from over 20yrs ago when andy pegg was riding about norwich on a bright pink funk e-stay mtb (completely with carbon-wrapped frame repair).

these aren't the sort of bikes we see over in the uk, but surely there must be a world outside of steamboat springs (ie. moots)

am falling out of love with carbon as quickly as fell in love with it (slight issue as i have two carbon road bikes and a half-carbon yeti mtb!)

cheers

I don't know anything about Funk Cycles but what's 'left field' about the frames you're mentioning?

If you're thinking handbuilt and you're in the UK, check out the Bespoked Bristol show website and the associated gallery. Lots of nice and unusual bikes. We're hopefully having Kevin Winter (a local frame builder) build a custom mtb for us for next years show, all being well.

Funk cycles is cool.

There is also Chris Herting at www.3dracingbikes.com. I almost got him to make me a 29er single speed belt drive, but the Lynskey frame I found was too good a deal to pass up.

hand made from the old era of 90s mountain biking.

Whenever I see a retro classic I drool more than any new ultra modern carbon bike. The other day I saw someone riding a Fat Chance with Cantis on my local trails. I was riding my 2011 Rocky Mountain Element Team RSL. But it was no match for the coolness of a fat chance.

Funk cycles maybe from the 90's era, but they are not retro.
Tig welded ti frames are just as generic as mass produced carbon frames.
With the exception of a very few like seven that have blended carbon/ti
with an old school lug looking design, to name one example.

What is special is their feather tech butted tubbing that can be individually made
for each tube/bike to acheive a certain ride quality. It's also oversized to stiffen
up the frame and cut weight sort of like a C'dale.
