My pair of Nemesis and Circus Monkey Hubs is in the mail waiting to arrive, and I'm looking for which tubular tires with Tan sidewall to get, to keep that classic look and still handles the winter roads of New Jersey. I was looking at Veloflex Criterium or Roubaix or even the Vittoria CS. what do you guys recommend from experience wise.

Provided they're aged for at least three months I'd say Veloflex Criterium (Roubaix seems overkill on that type of rim).
Not sure how clement the winter season on New Jersey is though...?

Veloflex roubaix or Challenge Strada (see latest velonews for cRR test)

buy the tire .. install them after 3 months ? winter season in nj , pot holes and road salt .

I vote Veloflex. A little of topic but its there a way to protect the gum wall from dirt?

You're not going to run a Lambo at 200mph straight out of the showroom either, are you?

I especially mentioned aging them because you suggest riding them during the winter season. That said, with a bit of luck they may already be a few months old before they reach you and it ain't exactly winter yet, so....

Aging tyres such as Veloflex improves puncture resistance quite a bit and also makes them slightly lighter if they're glued together(such as is the case here) .
Same for Vittoria (not glued), FMB, Challenge (I think), Dugast, etc.

If you're worried about losing your investment precociously by riding Veloflex (and likes) during the winter season, I'd suggest using Conti Competition and try different tyre pressures (in essence much lower than what you'd use with a Veloflex one) until you find the sweet spot.
Those are still not cheap but at least they have more chance of surviving the cold season plus they truly excell in the wet. (No tan sidewalls though...)

Get the Competitions in 25mm. You don't have the time to age the Veloflex's or FMB's properly. The Comps aren't that bad, especially in the larger volume 25's. Get some Veloflex tires now for next year....

I have a pair of competition in the closet as a spare, but since it's nemesis rims I wanted to keep that classic look with the Tan side wall. What about the vittoria corsa cs with the Tan side wall ?
also will any of you do Veloflex criterium 22mm and roubaix 24 in the rear ?
