For those of us building a disc road as a North America winter project, what are some of the options for rims for handbuilts? I guess any of the ordinaries will work, but would be nice to see something without a brake track. I'm good on hubs, just scratching my head a little on rims.

Yes, but those are pretty heavy. I guess more like Hed Belgiums or Kinlin 270 weights are what I'm thinking. Seems like Salsa is OEMing some HEDs with no track, but I cannot find them anywhere. May just go Open Pro silvers for now. Just want to build some high mileage wheels.

But you asked for "Deeper Section AL Rims" in your subject line.
I provided what you asked for, now you're saying they're too heavy?

Deep section AL will never be light. Period.

The ones you just listed in your follow up post are not 'deeper section al rims', they are quite shallow.

So what exactly do you want?

I'm with Pren that the question is confusing. The only "deep" section rims without a brake track are going to be fixie type rims.

If you want light and without a brake track then maybe the stans iron cross?

The rest of the post suggests your building a fixed gear road bike. Don't see what that's got to do with discs.

i believe velocity rims are avilable with no brake track. do you want deep, or were you thinking wide rim?

Yes, Velocity is available either machined or not, there are about 15 to choose from, but these are not light because they are basically a track rim (though used by hipsters everywhere) Deep V are over 500gr

I definately think H + son rims are extraordinary. I am yet to ride a set but reading the reviews and having a look on their website, I think you couldn't go wrong. They are apparently bulletproof and although not that light, I don't believe you will do any better without going into some really dodgy rims that are wafer thin and will buckle within the first week of riding. Also, just have a look at the colours! There is enough to look good on any bike there. So good luck!
