R5/CA owners and other friends...
This morning on my trainer, the seatpost clamp on my CA snapped (POW!) when I sat upright on the bike. I called a local dealer and they are chasing warranty info. Some questions in case anyone knows:
- is the seatpost collar the same size (internally) on all the R series these days?
- I heard (and remember reading) that the CA collar was special. My LBS was thinking that too - not certain. I imagine it was thinner/lighter. Can anyone confirm?
- I heard (and it's alluded to here http://www.excelsports.com/main.asp?pag ... 11&minor=8
" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) that the standard R5 (and R3?) collar was upgraded/replaced with a new model at some point. The link above says "newer 6nm clamp". My clamp was rated at 4.5nm. What was the standard R5 clamp rated at before the 6nm variant?
My preferred remediations:
1 - Cervelo says the 4.5nm superlight CA clamp was upgraded to some 5.5nm equally lightweight neato piece they are overnighting to me right now.
2 - All the clamps are interchangeable; Cervelo overnights me an original 4.5nm unit, you guys give me some good advice (I'm thinking carbon paste would work here since the seatpost is aluminum (thompson masterpiece) while the frame is carbon at the point of contact) and I go with it, but I also buy the new 6nm standard/beefier unit for backup (no I wont carry it on rides!)
3 - The clamps are interchangeable and Cervelo et al recommend just using the beefier one.
I weigh 76kg/168lb - maybe I'm heavier than any test riders!?
Thanks for any advice
Cervelo will over night you nothing. Hate to break it to you. But I can't think of another bike company of any size that would be over nighting you anything either.
Clamps are different.
