Speedplay X1 and X2 pedals

I have Speedplay X1 pedals with a bad needle bearing on the left side. I would rather not shell out $330 for a new set. Can I order X2 pedals and swap the steel spindles for my old Ti spindles? In other words, are X1 and X2 pedals the same except for the spindles?

Replacement pedal body's, with a new needle bearing installed, can be purchased online or from a dealer. I have heard and read from others, that just the needle bearing can be replaced, but Speedplay says it permanently bonded to the plastic body.
