Zipp 202 or EC90 SLX?

Both on sale at my LBS, weights are similar, prices are not ;-)

Both tubular of course...

Experience with either? Both?

I don't race, I don't live in the mountains, and they will be my everyday wheels.

Thanks!

If there's a big price difference get EC90 SLX :)
If you can afford Zipp get Zipp.

get both, that way you'll still have one pair to ride while the others being fixed.

If they are the Zipp Firecrest 202's it's a no-brainer.

See, here's where I'm confused. Seems like the tubular version does not get the ā€¯Firecrest" moniker while the clincher version does. I thought all the new Zipp wheels where called "Firecrest".

Ummmm....because they are carbon tubs or because they are Zipp / Easton?

Alternatives then?

Not saying the slx's are better than the zipp's, but my slx's were more like 1165g. And roughly 40% less expensive too.

easton: very durable rims, external nipples but shitty hubs, round spokes,
zipp:probably better aerodynamics, less durable rims, shitty hubs...
i'd take the easton and whenever you're fed up with changing bearings relace them to a set of dt hubs with aerolite spokes...

Great info. Speaking of DT, they have a few sets on sale as well. How is the RRC425F/525R wheelset? They are about CAD $300 more than the Zipp. I'm fine with spending a bit extra dough to get a light, quality set of wheels.

I had a pair of SLX's for a season 2 years ago, the rims were fine, the hubs were terrible. Not sure if mine were a bad pair but the rear hub had alot of play in it out of the box. I couldn't tighten them without compressing the bearings so much that the wheel would freeze. Just a very poor design IMO. Not sure if they have changed since but I have no desire to buy another pair to find out.

Agree on the Easton hubs being not that good.
