I'm looking for brakes for a new build. I'm getting tempted by TRP's brakes, especially by the r920:

Does anyone have experience with these brakes? Is the stopping power comparable witth Campy or Shimanos offerings or is more like KCNC's brakes? Is the weight of 128g a piece accurate?

and finally is the r960 a better buy?

Great value for money and stopping power equivalent to Ultegra IMO. (I haven't used DA or Campy)
Can't help on the weights - never weighed mine.

Mine came in at 128 front and 130 rear. I would say they are closer to kcnc than campy/DA. They grip enough to lock the wheel but dont have the powerful feel of DA.

my set came at 238 gr including bolts. almost as good a dura ace but cheaper and lighter.

Mine came in at 235 for the pair.

By the way, as an alternative, CaneCreek SL is the exact same set of brakes, just re-branded. Still comes with the KoolStop pads.

I've got a set of CaneCreek SL on one set up, and the TRP r920 on the other. Originally I thought I'd prefer the TRP version a bit more as it has less graphics, however I end up favouring the CaneCreeks as the centering screw is not sticking out by default like bad acne.

I really like the 920's. I put them on 2 bikes. They are a lot lighter than 7800 DA and work close to as well. They are a little lighter than Campy skeleton, and I think they work as well, if not better. They were my favorite for price/performance until I got a set of 960's. They are more expensive, but lighter, better performing, and look cool. Okay, I really don't give a rats about look cool (riiiiight), but they are my favorite now. The 920's are still the best bargain though, in my opinion.

In what way are the r960's better performing than the 920's?

I've used cane creek SL and now have the r920. The pads are two colors on the r920 while the CC are all black, but besides that I can't tell a difference.

The only reason I got the r920 set was because they were a bit cheaper than the CC. I got them at aebike.com, fwiw. Cheapest price I could find.

Highly recommended. They stop my 165lb body as fast as I ever need to stop in the wet or dry.

The 960s are lighter and more powerful (stiffer?).

get tektro R40 same brakes... lots cheaper... r920 rebadged thats all

I can't find much about a Tektro R40 brake. Do you mean Tektro RX40?

That brake is 156g per caliber, which is almost 30g more than th TRP r920. So it can't be the same brake.

typo... its a tektro R740 REBADGED.. 100% got some in my hand ...249 grams per set

TRP is Tektro.

TRP stands for Tektro Racing Products. It's just a sub-line of Tektro.

Same way as F1 Ferrari. Just upgrated Ferrari. It's not bad thing nesessery.
