Felt FA/F75 7031g (15lbs 8oz) build for $1600
Moderator: robbosmans
Ive been looking for a alloy frame and I stumbled across this frame. Its a 2011 Felt F75 witch is the same as a there FA frame set. It was the frame that had the fork recall which worked in my favor once again. The replacement fork has a carbon steerer and I believe is the same as there inside out fork that comes on the F1. I actually have a F5 limited frame and with a Easton EC90Sl because of that recall.
I posted pics of the frame and fork out the box and plan on getting weights and posting the results.
I am shooting for a sub 6800 gram fished product while staying with in a 1500 dollar budget.
The frame and fork grossed me $260 and I have a set of wheels that cost me 0 and a set of Sram force calipers I took off of another build.
I picked up a Force BB30 crank for $160.00 so I have $1080 for the rest. this should be fun
and a pic of my F5 frame, they almost look the same!

I will get the weights tonight and I will post the results tomorrow. By the way I got my F5 down to 13.8 pounds, pedals cages and everything without using super expensive parts, just super badass frames from Felt.

I weighed the frame and fork last night. I removed everything from the frame except the BB. With the BB it weighed 1497 grams, FSA BB30 bearings are 57 grams on there site, so the frame should be 1440 grams. The fork came in at 434 grams with the crown on it and the compression plug thing in the steer tube. I guess that's worth about 20grams so net on the fork should be about 414 grams
There advertised weights on there site are 1294 for the frame and 370 for the fork
In total frame and fork 1854 grams, so 190 grams off of advertised weight, imagine that, I guess that's not so bad

I did this on a similar budget, 7.3kg with pedals, and I think the frame is 1700g and the fork about 500g, but I can't remember, the listings put a CAAD4 at about 1300g but I think cannondale re-cycled the CAAD names so my CAAD4 was always a cheep bike, not an older top level frame. If my memory is correct then you've already got a 500-600g head start.
Could be a lot lighter too, the bars, seatpost and saddle are all far from the lightest for the money. And SRAM is lighter than Shimano.
The wheels are by far the lightest bits, and hapen to be for sale (see the for sale section)

13.8 lbs on the F5 is impressive. Mine should come out to 14.2 or so. I could drop my Dura-Ace pedals and get close to 14 even. Of course if we could afford the F1 frames we would really have something going.
Anyway, thanks for posting those weights. Yes, a little heavier than I would have expected. That expansion plug could weigh more than you think. The one out of my F5 was around 45g if memory serves me.
Looking forward to more of this project.

I removed the expansion plug and cut 20mm off of the steer tube

I also picked up a lighter expansion plug, out of a used part drawer. The original one weighed in at 45 grams. I used the felt supplied cap and dropped 15 grams, not bad for $0. I also ordered a titanium bolt to replace the steel one. Cant wait to see what that does.

Honestly I don't know yet. I have a pair of Felt aero 3 wheels I'm going to use at first. they come in at 1650g.
I was thinking of Tokens, Williams and those cheap ebay 27mm wheels that they advertise at 1390 grams.
Im trying to keep my budget on this build, trying. . .LOL
Any suggestions?

Have you checked Chinees Carbon wheels - lots of peps are pretty happy with quality and weights.
Looking myself to get either AC Aero 3 or Farsport 50mm.
Anyway, it is going to be impressive built based on your budget.
IRONMAN 70,3 TARGET TIME 03:55
More pats came in the last few days. I hung what I could, still waiting for parts ( F.D. bracket mainly) from China. Gosh they take forever sometimes.
I weighed the bike with wheels, tires, tubes, handle bars, shifters, R.D., Brakes, Stem, seatpost, rear cassette, crankest and pedals.
6939 or 15 pounds 3 ounces.
I still need to add the front derailleur, chain, shifter cables and bar wrap.
It looks like my weight to budget is impossible. Should be a 16 pound build with wheels that weigh 1683 grams.
Here she is so far.
