Hi all,

Until 2 years ago I thought expensive weight-saving parts were stupid.... until I bought some carbon tubs. Since then I am a full convert to the church of weight savings. I have been without a lightweight bike (my current TCR is 16.6 lbs, 7.5kg) for a while and would like some upgrade ideas that are cost effective. I already have some ideas (saddle, tubes, stem, tires) but wanted all your guy's input. P.S, if any of you have recommendations for a comfortable full carbon saddle I'm all ears. I like the Specialized power, Bontrager Aeolus type saddle. Short-nosed for an aggressive position.

Thanks!

I bought Tubolito Tubes - 40gram the piece. I think it is the most cost effective way if you dont ride tubeless

Aluminum tube valve extenders can shave a few grams also. I just swapped out a set of Conti chrome plated brass extenders for aluminum ones and saved another ~10g

Thanks for the quick replies! The valve extenders look super. As for tubolitos I would but Conti supersonics are similar in weight and much cheaper.

If you're on tubs then inner tubes irrelevant, obviously. But a vittoria corsa speed at the front works well for me and potentially 100g saved and lower rolling resistance, depending on what you normally run. (I wouldn't risk on the back personally as rear always more puncture prone).

I have a specialized s works power saddle on one bike (and a normal power saddle on my 2015 tcr adv sl), 75g lighter but still pretty compliant. Let's me get pretty low on both bikes, rotated pelvis etc.

Thanks for the reply! I am no longer on tubs just because someone offered me a lot of money for my tubs over the summer

Strip it!

Link-type cable housings. Kalloy stem. Aliexpress seatpost. Pyc chain. Aftermarket jockey wheels. Deda bar tape (tape it halfway, leave the ends exposed)

I have an ISP, so I can't replace my Seatpost. Jockey wheels are coming up.... some ceramic ones from Kogel. IDK about the bartape, I dont ride on the tops often but, ya know, it's ugly to have untaped bars.... Thanks for all the suggestions! will look into the stem and ali express saddle.

Eat Less  Of course unless your already at 7-9% body Fat :D
I have been without a lightweight bike (my current TCR is 16.6 lbs, 7.5kg)
Trust me I know this is WW (I have been here awhile) but you have a lightweight bike

Ok if you are lightweight yourself & really need to lose the 1 or 2 cups of coffee weight off your bike
Of course look for the 100+ gram savings items first but really most cost effective way is as stated above :beerchug:

Hi Flying,

I'm actually pretty lean, but that's definitely a good option ;) I know my bike is light but I do want to get closer to that 15lb holy grail weight. I'm 125lbs (57kilo) so a lighter bike would be a bigger difference for me than someone a bit bigger. Thanks for the advice :D
