The DA 7800 FD works perfectly fine for me. Haven't tried anything else but then I never felt the need to. Just stick with the 7800 FD.

best lightweight or just best shifting performance? I'm curious too as to the best performing light solution.

I use a shitty old 10 speed Record Ti (Tuned) campag front mech with my red shifters. It weighs about 55g (53?)and works fine. It has a tough job too because the 34 50 combo is hard on front mechs and I demand a fast shift and fair smack it through under pressure when racing.

best shifting
I tuned tiso altore to 37 gr but it was really too flexible and shifting was not very good

Have to third the Force, on my 34-50 the fd has worked perfect for 5500+ miles now.

I have a 7900 FD on my Sram Red setup. It works okay, but could be better. I chose it over force specifically due to weight. I may reconsider and try a force FD at some point.

Probably because the 7900 fd has a different pull ratio

The same front 10 speed Record front but I use a 53, 39 front chainring set.

I am running 7800 as well - it's OK not as good as 7800 with 7800

For the best mechanical fron shifting you'll definitely want to go with a DA7900 front mech. Then of course you'll want to change to 7900 shifters as well. It's the Click and Clack theory - start with something that works half way (like a SRAM drivetrain) and sooner or later you'll just end up switching it all to something that works better...

I just switched to a Sram Red Steel cage front derailleur and the shifting is night and day different (better) than the regular Red front.

Right now I use a Force front mech with my Red shifter. It's nowhere near as nice as 7900 front mech and shifter.
