I was taking a closer look at the Schmolke seatpost that's installed on my CAAD10. I noticed that the cradle isn't the same half circle shape... is it supposed to deform slightly? Is there a certain direction it has to be installed?I'm slightly worried it may be on the wrong side and fail catastrophically while riding.

iT looks like some of the layers of carbon may be delaminated?

You need a new cradle. Same happened to me just with a different seatpost.

Darn, just what I expected. It does look like the carbon layers are separating. Any idea what causes that?

The thing that stinks about these kinds of cradles is it'll be a PITA to find one locally, which means more downtime. :(

Why downtime, an alloy cradle would do just fine for the time being and (depending on the place you live) wouldn't take too long to find.
