I have modified the original expansion plug to extend my steer tube length by ~2cm.
Is there any potential problem with this setup?

At least the bottom of your stem will be clamping the steerer tube !

Isnt your expander going to work as a lever ? If your stem clamps on the ally bit the force on the carbon clambing area is going to be bigger than in a normal situation ?

Depends on how thick the carbon tube is, but for normal road riding probably OK.

Simply to risky considering the high torsional forces applied to the steer tube...not worth it!

Just curious, where did u find such a gizmo, or is this something you CNC'ed yourself?

The fork is 1" Colnago Star Carbon fork and the tube thickness is ~3 - 3.5mm.

side note, that stem has a TON of stack height. perhaps use something with lower profile?

Can't really tell whether it's safe or not without knowing the height of the spacer stack below the stem.

It might look shite but can't you just flip the stem?
