Any experience with the Fizik Antares 00 saddle?

Hi,

I've currently got a Fizik Kurve Chameleon saddle, but i'm looking for a lighter alternative. I like the Chameleon shape so the Fizik Antares 00 seems like a good option. The only problem is that no bike shop will give me an 00 to test (not surprising given that there $400 each), so I dont want to drop that kind of cash without first trying one. Has anyone got any experience with the Fizik Antares 00? If so what have you got to say about it?

Thanks,

Ed

Been riding the Antares 00 on both my road and track bikes for two seasons now. Very comfortable saddle. Durable. Light. I tried many other saddles before settling on this one as the best.

Early this season, I swapped them for a Kurve. After a month or two of constantly trying to adjust the saddle, it remained uncomfortable, caused sores on the sides of my legs and caused "numb dick".

I sold my Kurve saddles and went happily back to the Antares 00 for both bikes.

So what are the differences in shape then if your suffering from "numb dick" syndrome.

Antares 00 is my current saddle on two bikes. Not cushy, but has pretty good padding for the weight. I've got a white and black, and they weighed 135 exactly as advertised.

I tried the Kurve chameleon, and it did ok for me until I got up to hard efforts and 50+ miles. The hard plastic edges of it seemed to chafe a bit.

I seemed to sit lower into the Kurve as well. The antares 00 seems to be a bit more of an on top feeling, which allows better fore/aft movement. I also run the antares 00 a few degrees more nose up than I did the kurve - but that might be due to the sit bones area sinking into the kurve more.

I'd not pay $400 for one though...perhaps that's AUD? ;) I got one of mine off amazon for $255 shipped, and the other under $200 (online retailer had it priced crazy low for some reason - so I tried it....and liked it enough to buy a second one)

I am still searching for a lighter and better fitting saddle but have not found one yet.

Brilliant saddle, mine weighed uner the advertised weight- its as comfy as an old gel padded saddle I had in terms of cushioning, and the longish nose allows for good fore-aft movement if required. Highly recommended.

For me, the best saddle I have owned so far. This is in particular due to the flat top shape, i.e. the wings don't drop as much as with other saddles. This seems to work well with my sit bones, and combined with the minimal padding, prevents me from sinking in and putting too much pressure on the soft parts.
But then, saddles are highly individual, and there is no way to tell whether it is the right saddle for you. Quality wise, it is very light and durable.

One more vote for Antares 00, I love it. The flat shape is amazing, I never notice any discomfort at all and ride 250-300m per week year round. This is the first saddle in 30+ years riding that has nor cause a speck of discomfort on really long rides.

Also agree that saddles are very individual. Curved saddles like the Aliante go right up my ass like I'm sitting on a top tube. The wider flat shape of the Antares is better for my sit bones.

its a great saddle... but you will never know if you will like it without trying it. that's why i like bontragers comfort guarantee. the others are just a hit and miss. better to have a comfy saddle than a lighter saddle

How about Antares Carbon Braided vs Antares 00, they have completely different shells, mostly nylon vs pretty much full carbon. I have the carbon braided Antares and like the shape alot, and I really like being very much on top of the saddle, ofcourse with nylon shells that is never the case in long term.....

So I wonder, as the Antares 00 surely should keep it's original shape pretty much for the life of the saddle, does an Antares 00 and the regular Carbon Braided (when brand new) feel and fit the same way?

I am thinking about this Fizik Antares 00 Carbon wingflex to, but I use a Specialized Toupé Pro 143 for many years now. The toupé is a great saddle but before I try the Antares 00 I would like to know what I can expect comparing the toupé and the Antares 00. Anybody have some experience with both saddles?

indeed, my nylon shell Antares shows quite a bit of sag after 10K KM

i have used an 00 for about 2K KM which may be too short to say if it will ever show any sag. chances are good that is won't though

i am under the impression that the 00's padding is a bit thicker.

it could be that over time this will de-form permanently, maybe others here can say something about this

I have done 15,000 km+ on an Antares 00 (real weight 134g), no measurable sag, the carbon structure is very stiff and sturdy, though I am not heavy (63kg, 139-140 lbs). I only found it a bit uncomfortable on long hard Turbo sessions, which is the case with many saddles anyway. Fine on the road including on 4/5hr+ rides.

I am slightly more comfortable on the Arione 00 whose real weight is somewhat higher than advertised (146g vs 135g), but as we all know saddles are a very personal choice!

score another vote for the Antares 00.

have them on two bikes. have a Tune Speedneedle on another. the 00, i have done 125 mile rides on with no issues. the wing flex helps over the regular Antares with carbon rails which i also have had before getting the 00 on sale. retail price on the 00 is a bit much like others have said, so if you can get them on sale, all the better. one note, the edges of the saddle wear pretty fast...where the saddle covering tends to wear the most. not noticeable on my bibs with no abrasion on the sit areas, so i tend to think that the sharp areas of the saddle edges find the most wear over time. otherwise, love it.
