Ok, here are the Athena EPS weights for weenies:

Image
286g (+24g vs. super record EPS)
Image
230g (+32g)
Image
152g (+20g)
Image
166g ( +/-0g)

+ interface 22g
EPS Athena is about 76g heavier than super record EPS and the cost for uppgrade kits about 1000€ vs. 2000€. :noidea:

Sorry for dirty (ski wax) table on background. :unbelievable:

Seems a bit of a bargain. Weight v. Price.

Also the performance is very similar I believe.

Interesting, I wonder if some people will change their minds about this being bad value

That's not too bad a penalty you know over SR for the lower price. I'm still going to wait a couple of years though before heading down that way, also as there is no external wiring kit yet.

This introduction of Athena has started to make EPS look fairly desirable for me. I've now seen both SuperRecord and this week, Athena EPS - and they feel remarkably similar in use.

The lever shifting feel is really, really nice!

The weight penalty is far less than what I was expecting too

Keep in mind that this weight difference is just for the "electronic" components. The weight differential of the full gruppos is considerably larger.

The Power Torque crank/BB is still a horrible design though...

Would it be worth going Athena for the electronic bits and SR for the rest? Then you'll only have a 76g penalty over SR EPS, and you ditch the power torque BB

Hmm

I got m3 cranks and EE brakes...
As an upgrade kit this looks inviting..

Now how was that thread about cutting the battery open going?

Has anyone tried switching the mechanical Chorus carbon levers with the Athena eps alumium levers  ?Do you think they are compatible? Also is it ok to change the RD back plate with fiberlyte ?

The Campag EPS maintenance document says "Lever 1 can be replaced as with the mechanical systems".

There's not enough detail in the exploded drawings to tell if the backside of the mechanical and electronic levers are moulded differently. At any rate, it would appear the carbon Record EPS levers can be used.

Bumping this old puppy up....

I was thinking of putting Athena EPS on my Felt AR1. The idea is that I want to be able to swap between a road set up and a full TT set up w/out much recabling and hassle. How easy is this w/ EPS set ups?

I think you should just have to swap the Ergopower's for the EPS bar-ends. The only re-cabling should be between the interface and the shifters. IE: unplug the Ergopower and connect the bar ends.. It may require marginally more work if you also want to use the EPS bar-end brake levers. Anyone else?

It seems the brake cabling would remain the biggest hassle.
