So I'm looking at a bike for mainly training in the week, probably be used for some centuries and stuff as well (although I have a specific light bike for the hilly centuries in SoCal).

Being my back isn't what it was, and it's the bike I'll do the most miles on, I figured I would build something nice, but not with a weight emphasis. So I started with a Spada EM2 frame (arriving next week!), and had them put Deda carbon stays on it to try and cut some of the edge off the road surfaces. To this I'm adding a True Temper SUB-3 fork as I like the way they handle, plus it's pretty comfortable a result of having less material I assume, than a PRO or EX.

Now comes the fun part, I'm finding myself weighing parts to hang on it and adding it all up, plus comparing stuff in the listings and picking the lightest parts for those that aren't coming out of my parts boxes. I have a feeling it's going to be another weight wienie bike if I'm not careful. But also I'm using parts I like (such as FRM cranks, BB and bar/stem) and 680/860gm clincher wheels that have a weight benefit. It's going to be around 15lbs, and this is my mega miles bike!

So, do I deliberately buy heavier parts? Or accept my wienieness is complete and Dear Abbey can't help?

Do both! Thats exactly what I did with my new bike. It's 15.5 lbs, still light, but performance and comfort were my main emphasis. I could take 2 lbs off, but I won't. Just make the best bike for you, esp. if its a training bike.

Sometime in the next year I'm going to build a super lite bike, around 12.5lb range, if I can save up the money.

i thought i had a good bike, but everyone seems to be building a cooler bike...lol

I like Spada frames and wheels, he cares about his work and makes a good job of it.

I am using a lot of FRM because I already have it in my parts box from other builds where I swapped things out (eg the cranks/BB are left from my light bike, where I used Gass Torsk cranks and FRM 102mm Ti BB to save 65gm).

I don't have a picture of the frame yet, I'll post one when i do.

I just worked out if I can cut 311gms I can get a 12.9lbs bike...

Bring on the Easton SLX fork, Kestrel EMS SL bars and Evo3 saddle...anyone else have any ideas
