Hi guys

Quick question really. I had a bike fit done at the weekend and it was recommended that I get a 80mm stem and some compact bars. However as I've never changed them on my Kuota since day one I have no idea on what to get.

The bike is Kuota kharma as is mainly used for trialon so has clip tri bars, any idea would be greatly appreciated. I had been looking at 3T ARX Team as the colours would go well with the bike if that's any help

Deda has short stems and their RHM bar shape is of the short and shallow (compact) variety.
Also check out Zipp.

what rise on the stem?
what shape of bars do you like?
whats your budget for both?

3T stuff is nice. I really like Pro bike components.

Was your fit done on the aero bars?

PRO (Vibe e.g.) has also got decent stems in this length and they usually go well with the Kuota design.

80mm is quite short, wouldn't that impair the handling of the bike?

Not sure to be honest haven't ridden it yet since. I imagine it would do but for good or worse I don't know.

Rise on the stem I think is +-6 degrees.
Shape of the bars, I was after a compact set and mainly riding on the hoods I've not really paid much attention to the shape of bars to be honest.
Budget wise, no more that £200

wow.. glad to find this thread. today i went out to take my first test ride with my addictR1. the stem i have is the uno 90mm, which i found to be reaching for me. my whole body seem to be forward so when i pedal down, my knee are actually in front of the crank by a bit.

the 90mm build and quality and lightweight is spot on. it's + 7 degree.

but would like to hear if it will impair steering or something; which i don't think is should.. would it?

Getting good position outweighs considerations of handling ... for me and the type of riding I do.

I use an 80mm Deda Zero100 stem and Zero100 bars.

If you haven't already had a proper fitting, it would be better to get your saddle position looked at FIRST, then adjust reach via changing the stem.

my saddle position is locked in and its comfortable
so that's how I can tell if I'm reaching too forward...hope that make sense

I use a Bontrager triple X 80mm, but if I should go with anything else it would be Zipp Service Course SL stem. I use a Zipp SLC2 bar that support clip-on. When I sprint it shout "Is that all?". The bar has a very narrow tube, compared to my old Ritchey.
To me, position is everything, when you ride 4 hours you need to be comfortable. Its no good riding the last 2 hours with back pains. I bought a couple of cheap stems to try different positions for several rides. That helped me dial into the right position. Now I know for sure that a 70mm is to short and 90mm is to long for me. It cost, but less then a bikefit would, and I could try it for longer periods of time then just a 1-2 hour session on a trainer. It took about a week of cycling before I found that 90mm stem was to long for me.
To have comfort and trust in your position on the bike is priceless!

3T is good stuff, they make your stem angle and there erganova bars have a really good shape to accommodate changes in reach.
