My PowerTap SL2.4+ has kicked the bucket, if it's not the torque tube it's the part that sends the signal.

Say it's the torque tube (probably most costly repair) how much am I looking at the bill? Or is it just worth buying a new one from E-bay for $700?

Thanks.

Mik.

:)

mine failed in the first 12 months and I returned to the distributor in the UK, who sent it back to the US and returned it repaired FOC (other than my P&P costs to send it )
They now repair in country

I know of three others who have had theirs replaced for a nominal fee outside of the first 12 months ...mines gone again, so I must sort it out

these must be fairly fragile as i'm lightweight glass cranking non-sprinter type.... I've never broken a spoke in a rear wheel in 33 years a riding

What are the costs of the torque tube replacement?

I wonder what is so different about the torque tubes in the newer models that has them failing so often?
My older (wired) PT has more than 35000km's on it and has never missed a beat. Is currently built into its third rim and it just keeps on going and going.

Mine failed @ 8months old - done FOC
then failed again after another 6 months. price quoted was £450
After a lot of pressure from my excellent lbs, and countless dated emails with saris helpline regarding the intermittent problem it started with, paligap relented and did it FOC although they did charge me with for new bearings.

From what other people have said and my experiences with them, that while saris are fine, the distributors (at least here in the UK) are not upto much, and will try and get away with charging for anything. They dont repair; they replace...

it doesnt exactly inspire you with confidence in their longeivity; if it goes again within a similar time frame, it will be on ebay and i'll get an srm...

Oh that's not good. My first one lasted 3 years but only really used it full time for about a year and a half. It still sounds like a cheaper option to buy a new one off ebay at $700 and get it built into the wheel rather than get the old one fixed.

I have a wired version too that I bought off the coach second hand and that one reads out by 130watts (at threshold). Went through all the checks and zeroing in but still it reads out. Very anoying!!

Quarq next? Srm waaaaay too dear...I am only ever going to be an amateur cyclist.

I have a powertap (repaired by them) which doesn't work too.
Get out of this reliability-prone products, and get SRM, Quarq, etc. Don't waste money on
another one.
