Is 35mm too deep for a lady?
Moderator: robbosmans
I am considering buying my lady some wheels that are 35mm deep, but I don't want her to get blown around. Should she be ok with them, or should I just stick to standard height?

Make sure you get "U-shape" wide rims.
For some reason, my wide Farsports 38s feel better in crosswinds than my low-profile wheels!

She'll be fine as long as they are not heavy. I'm 5'6 and 128lbs and use Bora 50s and have not had any issues.

I'd say she'd be fine with the 35's depending on the design. I just bought some 38's and they actually feel less affected by wind than my 24mm Ultegra's which are as Marin said above, a modern designed, 28mm wide u-shaped rim. Spokes also play a big role in the way a wheel acts in the wind, some older designed wheels have some pretty wide "aero" bladed spokes which were designed to cut through the wind if it's coming straight at you but catch it from the side so if you're considering an older narrow designed rim with thick bladed spokes she'll probably want her old wheels back after that first big side wind.

All depends on her riding experience... My wife is a bit shorter and lighter, and rides Zipp 808 front, 900 rear for almost all her tri's. She has 60mm deep wheels on her road bike. Never a single problem. All comes down to riding experience, core strength and bike handling skills.
