I find the paint chips easily on these bars. I've wrapped mine most of the way along, both for comfort and to protect the paint (read: hide the chips!)

I tape mine similarly to the photo above. I prefer the untaped bar as it's not as bulky in my hands.
The only drawback I've found is some gloves are quite sloppy against the bare bar. I don't normally wear gloves though (or have gloves with a bit of grip in the palm) so not an issue for me.

Not taping up it up all the way save weight too! I don't use much of the top bar anyway as there's hardly any place for me to do climbing, hence leaving it bare is fine.
