I'm racing a pancake flat 40K tt tomorrow night. The course goes basically west then east coming back. There is supposed to be about a 10 to 12,MPH north to northwest wind.

So here are my choices: a H3 with a Bontrager Aerowing 19mm tire and a Michelin latex tube or a Zip 808 with a 20mm Supersonic and a Michelin latex tube. I'm running a disc on the back.

Which front?

How rough is the road and how fast do you expect to be going?

The roads are extremely smooth and 25 MPH plus.

At that speed you're unlikely to be getting into the yaw range where the H3 has an advantage - still in the sweet spot of 808. But put the Aerowing on the 808 if the roads are good.

I wouldn't bother switching the tire... the SS will be just as fast.

808 over H3 for anything (and i dont like 808's much) the conti tire is great if theres not much rubbish on the road

Is the 808 a Firecrest?

No it's not a Firecrest. It's dimpled and I believe 2009. It has silver hubs with round spokes. According to Adrians testing it had less drap over the H3.

What is your average speed (was it 25mph)? From my understanding H3 is great for zero yaw, crappy for middle yaw's, and not too bad at crosswinds. Based on your speed and the expected crosswinds, I would go with the 808. Have you looked at Hed's yaw calculator before?

The 808 did the trick. The wind wound up being between 14 to 18 MPH but I rode a 57:08 40K.
