Pressfit bearing question and Hollowgram

I have seen it recommended more then once and still have not gotten an answer as to why.

Why is it recommended to remove the seal behind the bearing shield? Is this simply being done to reduce drag or is there some other good reason.
I don't see the point in removing since your typical catridge type bearing seals are not intended to prevent water intrusion and bearings will not last very long if you get caught out in the rain.

who exactly recommends that? the only time i remove it is to use a different bearing shield (fsa or cannondale) that is thinner, to shift the spindle to the right, for srm installs...

Turns out I saw it in two places recently and it was the same person saying it. Made no sense to me which is why I asked.
