He guys, I just discovered my a shop in my area has a NOS 2006 Colnago C50 president edition with the Da Vinci paint scheme, all campy record 10-speed and colnago bar stem combo. Although I don't need a new bike I always liked the C50 and especially this one. It is my size so what would you pay for it?

As someone who can't seem to stop buying Colnagos, the first question is how much they're asking for it. I recently bought a NOS C50 frame for something like $1,900. Record 10 speed groups were on eBay a couple of months ago for something in the $1,400 range. So, add the bits and pieces and something like $4,000 would be OK. However, being the dumb guy I am, I might pay as much as $5,000 if I really loved it. The da Vinci paint is a love it or not thing and the Colnago bar is the same - I'm not sure either adds much to its market value. They've been sitting on it for a long time so perhaps they're ready to deal.

Yeah I was thinking around 4000, they keep telling me it originally retailed for 8900 but that was 6 years ago. I like the paint and bar purely for the uniqueness not necessarily the retail value. The bike would be a fair weather and weekend bike not for daily training miles.

I concur with what c50jim says above, but would also add that I believe that particular frame is more of a monocoque design than the standard lugged C50 if I'm not mistaken. I'm assuming you are aware of that and that is one of the reasons you like this one aside from the colour scheme. Personally, I'd rather have the lugged design. As for the colour scheme, that's totally up to the individual for sure. Some are more popular than others.

And what something costs originally 6 years ago has no bearing on what it's worth today, especially since there's been several iterations of groupsets since then. But it might be tough to convince the shop owner of that. At this point, he should accept the fact that it's been sitting around for 6 years with dated technology on it at this point and be willing to suck up a loss to move it out of the store.

I would say you're in the driver's seat on this one. Be patient. There are other C50's around if this one can't be had for a very good price.

Yeah this is one of the monocoque frames which I do like because I don't personally see too many of them, have you ridden both to compare this versus a lugged C50? Yeah I agree about the pricing as I haven't actually shown up with cash yet so he has no reason to make a deal yet. I guess I just want to pay more than what seems fair.

No I have not ridden that particular model so i can't compare. But if it's a Colnago dealer you're talking about might they have a lugged frame your size so that you could compare for yourself?

On first reading, I missed the fact that the bike is a President rather than a C50 -C50 rear end but monocoque front. I have a 50th anniversary which is a President frame. Frankly, it doesn't seem that much different than I remember my C50, which I sold a couple of years ago. Handling is like my C40s and EPS, ride is closer to the EPS than the C40s - stiffer and more harsh than the C40. It's still a good bike. There are fewer Presidents around than C50s but I doubt that it makes much difference to the price. It's still been sitting there for six years and the dealer could presumably make more money with something he could turn over more quickly.
