Does anyone know any of the particulars of the new stem from Richie, supposed to be super lite, or that is what my dealer is saying

Edited your topic title a bit to make things more clear.

This was on bike radar earlier today: http://www.bikeradar.com/road/news/arti ... ook-34068/

Given my 120mm alloy Ritchey WCS C260 Stem weighed in at 116g I'm not sure what the fuss is about if you're a Weenie.

Bikeradar states 132g for the new carbon stem in 120mm but it's unclear whether they weighed it before photographing it in a bush or took the weight from Ritchey!

IMHO, I still prefer aluminum for my stem & bars. And yes, I ride a carbon frame -- not one of those guys who thinks that carbon will spontaneously explode if I look at it the wrong way.

In terms of weight & stiffness, I'm perfectly happy with my deda alloy setup. I don't see the return on spending 2x or 3x the money on a carbon bar & stem.

That said, that Ritchey stem looks awesome. If cost wasn't an issue, I'd get it. ;)

A bit off topic but whatever happened to all of the magnesium stems that were so common about 10 years ago? They sure were light. Was it corrosion problems, durability, flex issues that killed them?

I'll stick with my WCS C260 carbon overlay/aluminum, or straight aluminum with aluminum ergo bars thanks.

That ugly chunky thing isn't lighter than the 260 version, and you won't know the difference of stiffness I would guess.

Comes off as the Zipp and Cavendish Pro stem design/look.

Mag stems from ITM broke at the "ears" where the stem interfaces with the steerer. I think they were structural failures, rather than something brought on my corrosion.

Been riding an Easton Mg stem on the MTB for 5+ years, no issues.

This stem look promising as a candidate for a custom bonded one-piece bar/stem set-up from Appleman, Calfee or Berk.
