If you're looking to save weight there's not a lot of difference for 50mm of wire so always pays to have it slightly long in case anything unforeseen comes up. 50mm of wire roughly works about between 0.5-1g.

Not that much about the weight as about not wanting to have a bunch of cables coiled up within the frame.
You are absolutely right that better have them a bit longer then a bit too short!

you do need some extra length if you're putting the seat post battery in. otherwise, very difficult to snap the cable end in.

Indeed, planning to go with a 600 mm long one for the battery. Seat tube is 510mm, should leave me enough space to plug it with no dramas.
