Do Shimano, Campy, and Sram all make their own chains? Or do they use technology and factories from guys like Yaban, KMC, or Wipperman?

I can't imagine Shimano would outsource, but I'm pretty sure I've heard Sram does, and wouldn't be surprised if Campy does now.

Oh really??

I just looked up the super record chain. It stated that it uses a Ni-PTFE surface finish, just like Yaban's self lubricating chains.

Yaban also uses the 5.9mm with for 10spd chains-same as campy which is 0.2mm narrower than Shimano 10spd chains (but they still work perfectly!)

Could it be that Yaban makes Campy chains??

Campy does outsource chain production - read it someplace recently; can't quote chapter and verse. Somewhere in Eastern Europe, not their own Croatian factory

Found a Wikipedia entry that Rohloff at least used to make Campy chains. Is this still the case?

rohloff made campy 9speed chains. campy started making their own with their 10speed chains. im not informed on their current situation, but considering what part of who's chain wears when, i doubt any other chain maker is also making campy chains.

Of course forgot about that. SRAM tends to buy companies to make/design their products.....
