Hi guys, drive side of the hub, behind the freehub body, should there be a cover plate where the spokes sit in the hub flange?

Had my 303's rebuilt with a Powertap last year and I was thinking i'd sell the hub and spokes, but unsure if there is a part missing or not?

TIA

There should be a tension ring "covering" the spokes, this picture shows one on the right: Image

It doesn't truly cover them though...

Having looked at others, I think it's OK.
I'll post a picture later.

Thanks

Nope, you're still missing the tension ring.

Should look like this. One with ring popped off so it can be easily seen

I think on the V7 there is no cover plate, that came on the V8/11 speed. On my V7's you can see the head of the spoke when the cassette is off. There is a rubber seal between free hub and hub shell that is really part of the free hub/axle assembly but definitely no cover plate like on the V8. The picture from ProEvo comes from a front hub.

no, yours is a v8 and there should be a plate like on rmerka's picture. However, it is just a cover plate to keep dirt out I presume, all out covers is the spoke heads so just cosmetic I think.

Zipp shows the ring in all their diagrams in exploded view regardless of version on the 188 hub and the ring is there on my 2011 404's. It's very easy to pop the ring off. I don't think it keeps any dirt out. If anything it helps to keep your spokes in the hub while you're building up the wheel. That seems to be all that it's good for.

I got it. Thanks :)

Local shop has ordered one for me.

Hub is a spare so my have it built with a new rim.
Also have the spokes.

my mistake about the end cap, on the v7 it is only the non drive side end cap that is red or blue.

It shouldn't be easy to pop it off once the spokes are tensioned. It's there so that it supports the flange once you tension the spokes.
