Trying to get this, from what it looks like a 12 speed Shimano cassette wouldn't play well with Srams 12 speed chains?
It seems it would be ideal if you could run old wheels (11 speed free hub) on Shimano cassettes and AXS groupset.
I guess this have been discussed, but i don't manage to find the right thread!
Oh, looking at Etap gen 1 shifters and AXS shifters, are they different talking reach? The hoods/ handles, not the levers!!

I don´t know the reply on your answer but when I had chain problems on my Ultegra 12 speed with Clavicula/Praxis Works 12 speed chainrings (chain falling and not acting well on Praxis Works) my mechanic adviced me to use Sram XX1 (MTB!) chain - he said it´s more tolerant. He even tried it on the bike.
I found that AXS chains work fine on the Shimano CS-R8100 cassette, it's just that the Shimano CN-M8100 chain works a little better because HG+ makes shifts down the cassette a little less clunky. I am using Praxis Buzz 12-speed rings up front with this combo, so I am less sure about the compability of non-AXS chains on AXS chainrings. I have also been using non-Shimano 12-speed HG cassettes from AliExpress with AXS chains with good results, and now that the 105 12-speed cassette has been released, this also makes a good low price option for non-XDR wheels.
For rim brake shifters, the hood shape and size appears to be identical between 11-speed Red eTap and 12-speed eTap AXS.

I don't know the answer to the cassettes - actually, I'm also curious because I see zero availability of sram cassettes and if shimano cassettes would work ok, this could be a work-around for that "problem".
w.r.t. the shifters, HRD etap-11spd shifter and force-axs shifters are the same exact shape.

Well, I have just told you that Shimano cassettes do work OK. Other HG 12-speed cassettes from AliExpress also work.
One potential problem is that they start at 11 so you could miss the high gear offered by the 10-cog if you're using smaller AXS chain rings. An 11-34 Shimano cassette with 52/36 up front is very similar to 10-33 with 48/35 AXS and I have that combination on one bike (Ultegra cassette and chain). I also use an 11-34 Sunshine HG cassette on another bike with Force 48/35 chainset and flattop chain and I don't really miss the big gear.
Regarding non-availablity of AXS cassettes, ZTTO now have XDR casssettes available for sale on AliExpress. I haven't bought one yet.

The loss of the 10t is indeed something to consider.bobones wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 11:12 amWell, I have just told you that Shimano cassettes do work OK. Other HG 12-speed cassettes from AliExpress also work.

I have been using Ultegra 11-30 12-speed cassette with a XTR DA 12-speed chain. Works perfectly well so far with AXS rear and front derailleurs.
I’m even using my Quarq crankset that has 52/36 11-speed Red chainrings and it works great with the Shimano chain.

The idea is to leave the 10T cog as i don't want it. I would then use a 50/37 chainring combo which would be ideal.
50/37 and 11-28 would be the option or even 11-26.
A 48/35 chainring combo is really not ideal for me. I think 36T small chainring is absolutelly the smallest i can imagine.

I'll keep looking for feedback from people using sram axs system with shimano 12spd cassette, chain and 11spd crank. If that ends up working good, it'd be very very nice.wheelsONfire wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 7:13 pmThe idea is to leave the 10T cog as i don't want it. Might work, but it seems the fit isn't really good if you look at spec sheet. Looking at jockey wheels and FD i wonder if we kind of get outselves into a sub-optimal setup. I guess i would be better off on Shimano as Sram altered things when it comes down to chainrings and cassettes. I also would like longer reach on the shifter body. Or if there was shims available so i could increase reach or tilt the shifters.pmprego wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 9:39 pmI'll keep looking for feedback from people using sram axs system with shimano 12spd cassette, chain and 11spd crank. This guy here claims the axs jockey wheels are exactly the same from the 11spd etapwheelsONfire wrote: ↑Mon Aug 01, 2022 10:09 pmMight work, but it seems the fit isn't really good if you look at spec sheet. i know you've said it before. for sure. but i don't remember in which thread. so the question (sorry for the repetition): and you use sram cassette/chain ou shimano cassette/chain?
