the answer to tpi is that in most cases it's marketing....here's why: michelin tires have a low tpi but excellent casing, low rolling resistance, and good feel, but they flat easy,
vittoria have a high tpi but they are made old school, the type of rubber they use needs to be cured/aged so that moisture in tire will be removed which increases flat protection and mileage, the casing is still very smooth and supple, in the case of vittoria higher tpi is better but it has to do with rubber of tire combined with casing...these are best tires you can buy if you can afford them and also can age them
as for conti, tpi means nothing, they use a heavy stiff breaker for protection, which is excellent for flats, but you lose the suppleness and feeling for the road, they tires are stiff, still an excellent tire but different feel of road or lack there of

Replace the word Vittoria for Veloflex and you're spot on.
Vittoria uses vulcanised mixed synthetic rubber compounds which in turn is vulcanised onto the casing. Aging thoses does nothing more than well, that.



While the way Conti presents their TPI figure their (ahum) own way they use (on some higher end tyres) the most supple and effective PRB strip invented to this very day (Vectran), namely a liquid cristal which is almost impossible to puncture.
While I agree entirely about the loss of "feel" with the road surface, they do have one of the most advanced and excellent compounds ever with their Black Chili compound.
