Campy Ultra Torque: What grease for that squeak?

I've got a squeak which I'm fairly sure is coming from my Record 11s Ultra Torque (steel bearings) crank. It's done 8,000 miles and Campagnolo says regrease every (approx) 4,000 miles.
Question: The manual says use "Campagnolo Professional Lubricating Grease (cod. LB-100)", but can I assume any good automotive grease is OK? Castrol LM for example?

I've never heard of UT's squeaking. But I can't count the number of times I've convinced myself of a BB problem, only to discover that it's a pedal squeak. I'd be looking elsewhere first.

Unless you've been hosing the bike down with high pressure, there's no reason for the bearings to need attention at this stage.

I had a little creak on Record UT Ti and used
copper prep paste which cured it.

My UT setup has never squeaked but I did find beads of moisture in and around the bearings and cups when I first opened them up and only a thin film of factory grease remaining. The bike had never been hosed down, just ridden in rain showers a few times.

I use Sta-Lube Marine grease in all of the serviceable bearings on my bike including UT bearings. The product is cheap and stays in place without adding much drag. I got onto it after checking out opinions on the web. Incidentally, Gary Fisher apparently insisted on it being used for assembly of his bikes years ago and used to ship drums of it over to Asia.

The squeak may originate elsewhere but repacking the bottom bracket is a good idea anyway and really easy to do.

Thanks for all the advice and suggestions. After the doubts expressed (and another ride) I'm now wondering about the source of the sound. It's an intermittent dry, squealing sort of squeak - not a creaking sound. It stops when I stop pedalling and it's bl**dy hard to locate.
All I need is a Tour de France-style mechanic, leaning out of the team car at speed, and using a stethoscope.

Try changing and/or lubing your QR skewers. Your pedaling might cause a vibration which propagates to the QR skewer (particularly the rear, but maybe front), and the propensity for the noise might depend on which gear (cog combination) you're in.

Regarding saddle/seatpost/clamp, does it make the noise when out of the saddle?

Then check those QR skewers.

I had the same issue and always thought it came from the BB, but it ended up to be the front QR skewer. Some grease did the trick to my Tune14 skewer.
