Hi guys

Just pulled my bike out for the first spring ride but was let down by my trusty Red group.

The rear shifter will not keep its index which means it will pull cable put does not click and hold the cable. Any one tried this and what part do I need to replace?

Regards
Lars

They do not sell parts other than lever blades

Warranty or a new shifter

There are no more warranty.

Can it really be that Sram does not back up their top of the line group with spare parts? From campagnolo you can get any little spare part you want.

No more Sram for me then.

My guess is that you just need to clean and lube the internal mechanism. It is not hard to do. If you pull up the hood on the shifter and look at the sides that face toward the wheel you will see a plastic cover plate held on by three small philips head screws. Use a jeweler's screwdriver to remove the screws and take off the plate. Once the plate is off you will be able to see the internal mechanism. You can use a q-tip and WD-40 to clean out any gunk on the mechanism. Then relube with light grease or oil. That should fix your problem if it is caused by dirty, hardened grease. You can also inspect the ratchet mechanism for wear at the same time.

I'm with djwalker on this: if it's not indexing, then the pawl's probably not reengaging the ratchet wheel inside the shifter, which is likely due to it being gummed up. It's a clever system once you're in there, so be sure to clean and grease all the surfaces that the pawl makes contact with.

Just a quick note: when putting the cover plate back on, be very careful to not overtorque the screws. They're threading into plastic, so they're easy to strip if you're not reasonably careful.
