Currenty running a 42cm carbon bar and need to drop to a 40cm. The bars I am looking at are a claimed weight of 177grams. Much lighter than what i am runiing, but was curious as to the average weight of a true ww bar.

Depends on how much you're willing to spend. I'm running a pair of Zipp bars in a 42 that are about that weight and I consider them to be a WW bar. That being said, if you were to go for an AX or Shmolke, you'd probably drop considerable weight off of that as well as considerable cash.

A brief look at the listings shows around 165g as lowest weight.

My Zipp SL (40cm o-o) weighs about 163g, 40cm c-c would be a bit heavier.

I'm on a 42 3T Ergonova LTD and it's around 175-180 both advertised and measured.

IMO anything below 200 grams is a good weight....below 175 we are entering WW zone. Schmolke and AX do push the envelope with sub 160 garms bars.

I have to agree with these parameters. My Zipp SL S&S 40cm came in at 168grams, this is about as low as you can get without going for a more exotic brand like Schmolke and AX. Some Schmolkes come in at 145-150grams. I am not really a cost weenie I figure if you got it might as well spend it on something you love, but Schmolkes are $600+, the Zipps come in under half the price which makes them hard to beat.

I picked up an secondhand Schmolke 42 cm at 163 grms (non OS) coupled with an Extralite stem, it makes a really WW set up. I haven't tried it yet with the stem but it works well with a richey WCS.
