Hi,

I am looking for a new compact handlebar (with Campa Ergopower mechanical).
A carbon version would be nice if stiff enough (weight: 71kg/ 156 pounds; riding in an hilly region)

But which one is the best in terms of stiffness: Deda Superleggera or 3T Ergonova Team :?:

Or should I rather go for the aluminum version ?

If you want outright stiffness why not go for Deda 35 series or Shimano Vibe Sprint? I wouldn't say that at 71kg you need outright stiffness but I can see where you're coming from, I'm a light rider but it's nice to hammer on a super stiff setup.

finnrambo Could you tell me if superleggera 35 has the same diameter in drops as "usual" superleggera?

I always found carbon bars as too much trouble. You need torque wrench to install anything, carefully inspect the bar after every small accident. If you crack them, they are too expensive to replace.
So I would go for an aluminium bar and stem combination, and save money for something else.

This is Ergonova Pro and 2015 Chorus shifters.
I built the bike last night, so couldn't ride yet. But I heard many times that, Ergonova does not have good shape for campy shifters... We will see :)

HI,

I have tested the Dead 35er series at my local dealer but the diameter is much to big for my hands.

(@ markyboy: read the thread. Thanks)
It seems indeed that you have to be very much careful with the Deda Superleggera. Not quite what I like actually.

Does anyone has an experience with the 3T Ergonova Team in carbon ?

I'm using 38cm Ergonova team on my bikes since 2012. They have been great so far.
No stiffness issues as i'm only 67kg (1m81cm, skinny type).*
I've crashed them a few times, no problem.
I find them very comfortable compared to the alloy bars i've used in the past.

Hi Tom-s,

Did you replace them each time after crashing, didn't you ?

No i didn't need to replace them fortunately.
Just check if they are all ok by taking them off when replacing the (damaged) bar tape.
Push them from all sides, pull on them as hard as i can, listen for cracking, sit on them etc etc.
I do use a torque wrench and paste for carbon parts.

When comparing the weight of the Deda Superleggera/ Superleggero and the 3T ARX II/ 3T Ergonova Team, the 3T combo /handlebars and stem) weights almost 100g more (125+198g vs. 99+126g).
The stem 25% more and the handlebar almost 60% more.
That could explain a part of the reason why the 3T seems to have more stiffness (?) (if both would have the same carbon structure etc...)

100g for a sufficient/ good stiffness would be ok for me. And 100g less than the aluminum version.

What do you think ? Go for the 3T ARX II/ 3T Ergonova Team ?

The weight of my 110mm 3T ARX I stem is 130g and for the Ergonova team handlebars 38cm = 194g, 190g and 42cm=188g.
I don't believe the Deda bar is that light. It's more like 180g for a 42.
So a Deda combo would save you max 40g over 3T.

Well, I took the weight from their website indeed. The reality may of course be slightly different.

Another option is to take the 3T Ergonova Limited version which uses the HM carbon (and is slightly lighter)

Keep in mind that with the LTD you lose the option of mounting clip-on aero bars.

:unbelievable: Now that is just plain crazy talk. This is weight weenies and we all know the motto - light durable inexpensive - pick two!

I have some 3T Ergonova Team Stealth Bars and they are nice (just got them) the only thing that I would say about them is that when you get your bar tape, make sure it is the thinnest stuff they make. I accidentally ordered some Fizik 3mm bar tape and I had to take them off because it made the "Ergo" bars too big.
