As the title suggests, I'm looking for a pretty specific type of bolt. I recently purchased a bunch of black titanium bolts from Martin @ BikeHardest.net and the bolts are great. Now I'm just having a tough time finding the last two bolts I need to complete my black bolt conversion project. The bolts I am looking for are replacements for my New Ultimate Evo Seatpost. These bolts are a taper head M5x40 titanium bolt, but they have a narrower head than normal bolts which allows the bolts to seat properly within the clamping mechanism. Pictured below.

Does anybody know where I can get a couple bolts like this in black titanium??

Hi,

From looking at Martin's e-shop he'd still have some in stock.

Most of these bolts you'd find in German shops are sourced from Jaeger-Motorsport in DE.

Ciao, ;)

I can only find the normal M5x40 black bolts in Martin's shop unless I'm missing something? I need M5x40 bolts, but with a narrower head than the standard DIN 912 bolt has.

Hi,

Aren't these the ones you're looking for:

http://www.bikehardest.net/j15/en/Bikehardest/1-Titan-Parts/12-black/13-Screws/2147-Titan-Schraube-M5-x-40-konisch-DIN-912-Grade-5-schwarz.html

Konisch= conical= tapered

Ciao, ;)

I did not think about that. That might be a very good idea.

No those are the ones I already purchased. The diameter of the taper head on those bolts is too wide to fit properly in my seatpost. Martin said he didn't have anything like what I was looking for.

Hi,

So the ones you have now have more taper. Do they still use the same allen key? (M4 I think)

The reason I ask is that the more the bolt is tapered the easier it becomes to damage it.
If you could measure the head diameter of your bolts, that would hellp too.
I also do not quite understand why you need to stick with that particular shape of tapering...

Ciao, ;)

This is a photo from fairwheelbikes website. You can see how the bolts are recessed within the "tube". The head diameter of the bolts I purchased from Martin is too wide to fit within those slots. The shape of the taper is not necessarily important, only the width. The stock bolts from New Ultimate seem quite good quality, I just want them black.

Hi,

So, for as long as the bolt head passes through the first hole you're all set, right?

Why not widen the bottom hole a little? It's not as if it's carrying any load.

http://www.jaeger-motorsport.de/shopsystem/Titanium/bolts/Titan-TCK-specialcolors::974.html

That said, I know of another shop in Austria that stocks Ti bolts, just need to dig it up somehow....

Ciao, ;)

I would reduce the taper of the bolt instead, it's solid and way cheaper to replace if it fails

I touched up a few exposed ti bolts with the following pen and it came out pretty good. Cheap, and you can touch up other blems.
