Campa Khamsin vs Xero Centauri XCR-1

I have the opportunity to buy a set of wheels(I need them for day to day rides) and I need to choose between:
Campa Khamsin new model 1870 grams and Xero Centauri XCR-1 16/20 spoke 1550 grams. I would get the Xero Centauri for 30$ more than the Campa.
The Xero are light used and the Campy are brand new.

What would you get for training and rides in crappy weather?

I've never ridden either.. nor can I attest to the quality of either. The weight.. 1800+gr is crazy. Some people might say that its a better training tool... but I would rather feel faster and ride longer than feel bogged down by anchors. My opinion..

They are training wheels so they should be durable and worry free above all. Based on my experience, I am pretty sure the Campy wheels will give you that, but I am not so sure about the Xero wheels with that spoke count and weight, especially if you are a heavier rider. I am also pretty sure you would hardly notice the weight difference between the two unless you climb all day.

Just my two cents.

What fa63 said.

I am a Campagnolo devotee, but pretty much everyone would confirm that Campa wheelsets are very, very reliable.

The Xero I have no experience with.

I'm 66kg, the weight it's not a problem. But based on my experience too, the Campa hubs are rims are pretty much bomb proof.
The same issue here, no experience with Xero :( That's why I need your help.

But getting them for almost the same money, that's a pretty big question :-s

Another +1 for the Campa's. Those Xero's don't seem to be the kind of wheels you want for training and crappy weather rides. By accident I came across this thread on another forum: http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... p=14835734

Thanks for the tip. I think that 300 grams more for training would not be that bad . But the spokes starting to pull out, that doesn't hear too good :(
After all, Campy is Campy :)

I went with the Khamsin but I'm pretty dissapointed with the weight:(
1975 grams(without quick releases), instead of 1870.
Altough they look really nice :)

Don't worry, just makes your training effort even more useful ;)

Guess I'm gonna keep them only for training alone and rainy rides :) Training with the guys it's a little bit too fast for these wheels I think.

I got the Khamsins and did 200km (100 yesterday and 100 today). They feel very nice on the flats :)
