Do you have one of these stickers on your bike (if it didn't come with one?)
How necessary is this?

I mean a thick sticker 2" behind the BB on the chain stay..
Anyway, I made an extended chainstay protector to wrap that area as well, but it is not as thick as the OE stuff.

I think its worth it to have something back there. Specialized and Cannondale come with a protector from the factory. I would put some kind of protective film as a precaution. I already chipped mine and the frame is barely three months old.

I found some here, does anyone know of some choices that I can cut to shape.
I am currently using 3M clear film that you put on cars, it's can protect paint but need something heavier.

I too am interested in this and will watch the thread closely. I've Focus bikes also have something similar; I will inquire with my LBS about them.
I made one out of Delrin and packing tape. Works like a charm.

I installed the cannondale Protectors (metal) on two of my previous bikes (not cannondale) and it worked perfect. You can bent the metal without problems to the shape of chainstay you bike has and the sticky part takes care of the rest.
I actually ordered a Canyon Ultimate CF frame yesterday and will order me one of these again since the new frame doesn't have protection in the bb area.
LizardSkins carbon leather...it works great. EM3
