Let me clarify, I am not trolling.

As of today, I have not washed my primary water bottle in 1 year. I simply refill and squirt into my mouth as needed, never touching it to my lips. I just wanted to see what would happen. No excessive road grime, no mold build up, nothing.

Call me an idiot, call me an attention seeker, but I'm still alive and pedaling.

Glad I'm not the only one!! I have two bottles I use for everything, and as long as I'm riding frequently, the bottles stay nice (even if I'm slobbering all over them). If I take time off though, even if they're dry when they're put away, they're funky when I take them out and I need to wash them again. I think that the water flowing in and out repeatedly sorta cleans them for you if you ride enough!

Where does your water come from, mains or a private well? What do you add to it as well?
Commercially provided mains water, which you never add anything to shouldn't "go off" if it's regularly replaced/topped up/used. It's full of chemicals to ensure its "purity".
That'll soon change if you add sugar to it, or move out into the sticks and get your own well. Our water goes manky after 2 or 3 days, as there's nothing in it to keep the stuff from growing. (Comes out of a 110m borehole in the garden, that goes thro 80m of granite. So the waters clean, just no chemicals.)

"just no chemicals"

...except for the dihydrogen oxide, sundry other chemicals from the journey through the ground and a smidge of whatever the plumbing system is made of :)

yes, much tap water is chlorinated to discourage various nasties that might otherwise make a home in water systems, but that's minor compared to what you'll find in groundwater

Yeah, the symptoms from chronic drinking from an unwashed water bottle don't start showing up until after about three years.

As long as it is just plain water you should be fine.......not surprised there wasn't any noticeable filth.

Except we've just had it tested. I know exactly what's in it. A hell of a lot less than tap water.

And you know exactly what i meant by chemicals.

I leave Gatorade in my bottles if I don't finish it... call me sick.
