I got a Giro Aeon in size Medium (EU version) at 194 gramms.

My friend recently got one of those Ranking helmets, rebranded by french Ekoi in size Small at 177 gramms.

My Prevail -- in Large -- is 257g. Claimed weight is 249g.

On the other hand, I prize the ventilation over the few extra grams.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but helmet weights probably don't make as much difference as the fact that they are quite unaero in most cases.

As you can see, when people get into that low aero position, the helmets become least aero. Especially the upward-pointing tail. For those who like the front edge of their helmet closer to eye brows for the cool look, this issue is likely more severe.

Thoughts?

I think Tour magazine (or another one?) did a test not long time ago including aero drag.

I use a Cratoni Bullet for my race helmet. Claimed weight is 175g, from memory my large came in at 185g. Fit is good for my round head (I fit Bell Sweep best, Giro Ionos ok).

Also nicely priced - have seen them on special for less than USD100.

Cheers

GJ

Why is there so little info about the Scott Vanish road helmet? I'm trying to buy one in US, but it's not available in most places. I like the looks, the weight is good (keeping in mind the price). Anybody have any feedback?

I'm running MET Sine Thesis at the moment, but the shape of it just doesn't fit my head. Strange, as the old Stradivarius was perfect for me...

Briefly mentioned in the Procycling thread, but a write-up on Giro's new aero road helmet

http://velonews.competitor.com/2012/06/ ... met_224988

Will be interesting to hear if it's actually comfortable and ventilates well in real life. If it does, the aero advantage makes it a tempting piece of kit.

Just slap some packing tape over the front vents on your present helmet and it'll be just as good.
