All, please note that it is better not to look at the stiffness numbers of the Ax Alpha as it is a custom made frame. The frame tested is rather small and built for someone of around 60 kilos. If you would have yourself a frame build and you would for example weight 100 kilos you will get (if wanted) a total different bike which is still light but very stiff (it all depends on the tubes they use on your request). This was not clear from the test in Roadbike but no conclusions should be made on this basis on the Alpha´s stiffness numbers.

The test of the Felt was still very positive nevertheless.

weight total frame fork wheels size
AX 4720 666 239 1718 custom
Felt 5650 850 295 1831 58 cm
Look 6700 1012 304 2435 M

Stiffn. Headset Nm/° > 70 Nm/°
AX 55
Felt 78
Look 65

Stiffn. BB N/mm fork Nm/° > 80 Nm/° N/mm
AX 90 107
Felt 108 112
Look 111 137

Comfort Front N/mm Rear N/mm < 350 N/mm
AX 193 176
Felt 419 457
Look 375 206

wheel Front Nm/° Rear Nm/° > 70 Nm/°
AX 57 49
Felt 64 64
Look 78 69

The Ax Alpha is a custom made frame. Stiffness numbers are "negotiable".

@lonned
Thanks for the "costum" note. (I was focussed on the Felt F1)

Regarding the stiffness numbers
Comfort Front N/mm Rear N/mm < 350 N/mm
AX 193 176
Felt 419 457
Look 375 206

is a higher number better or is a lower number better?

Total waste o time looking at those comfort or stiffness numbers. I doubt you can tell the difference between the three. One would have to be really out of spec and be a different material.
Then there is the question of forks, wheel, tire pressure, stem length, bar size.
If you want the stiffer frame get a frame that is one size smaller than you need in the material you like or go custom.

They say lower is better (more comfort). Should be under 350 N/mm
They define comfort as "vertical flexibility". (may be a marketing gag :?:)

Changing the section width from 23 mm to 25 mm gives you more comfort advantage than different frames can do.

the look695 seems to hit the sweetspot. stiff yet very compliant rear end.

if you want to check out other frameset tested using the same methodology check it out here. too bad german tour mag does not post their reviews online for free.

It will be interesting to see if the new 2011 Felt F1 will be considered and ranked up there with some of the top road frames. If so, it would be a great option.

according to those numbers, the Spec SL3 tests better in STW than the Felt. Certainly it is stiffer in Torsion etc, while being somewhat softer/better in ride quality.

Hey SuperDave...any ETA on when the 2011 FC frame will be available in the US?

Are there any reviews for 2011 F series bikes hiding on the web? I've tried finding some stuff and aside from the German references, I'm not seeing anything yet.

Wonder if there is an update on this. Have a call into my LBS but haven't heard back.

I suspect delivery is going to be pushed back due to the F-series fork recall though. :(
