But his handlebar tape was balanced. That was the difference between 1st and 2nd.

It seems to me that high-end cycling shoes are gravitating toward a similar design.... S-works, Bontrager, Sidi, Bont, Suplest, Spiuk, and many others all offer a similar looking shoe. Does that mean they are the same? Of course not. But they are awfully similar... kind of like TT bikes.

I agree that they are all starting to look similar, but that shoe looks virtually identical to the s-works - the vents on the toe box are in the same spot, 2 boas and velcro strap in the same spot, the seam at the back of the heal and where they s-works are "thermobonded" look similar.

I think it is natural and fairly typical that design in any discipline sees convergence towards successful examples at points in time. Whether it's cross-pollination, blatant copying, or a coincidental arrival at a common successful conclusion who knows but it happens everywhere. Look no further than helmets, smart phones, architecture, etc...
Speaking of lace-up shoes, it's nice to see that mentally soft under-achieving Phinney guy get a result.

Love those GIFs!
Said it before - real sprinters can TT... when they want.
And I know it's a very short isolated clip but compare the smoothness of Martin to Cav. Martins is a Machine.

Wondering about Martin's position though. He runs so much drop that his arms are not bent very much, even though the upper part of his back is pointing downwards. Not saying he should change, obviously.
