I think VM lost it at Hem, 7.9km from the finish. Pointlessly led FC over the entire cobbled section, lack of patience when stalled on the track, and leading out too early. As if I could do any better.

^ But VM recovered a bit on the track there, he got Fabian on the hip and dragged him up the banking - good! But then VM started the sprint from way out...no so good.

Fabian on more traditional length bibs than his teammate just behind. Anyone knows the cause of the trend for knee long shorts?

I agree, he actually wasn't in that bad of a situation coming into the last corner. His mistake was starting the sprint too early and not at the last second where the banking was at it's steepest. Also keeping the sprint short would negate the advantage of the rider behind.

Interesting that "domestique" Eisel is often the last man standing for Sky in those races. Says a lot about experience, I guess.

Or the fact that EBH actually isn't that good.

Same for BMC with Hushovd. The fact that they still ride for him and Evans is kind of a joke. That team should have tons of firepower and their support riders often finish better than their stars.

I've said it already and I'll say it again, I think SVM rode pretty well except for the final sprint. I was timing the work each did and it was actually 50/50 and Fabian clearly couldn't get rid of him. If it wasn't 50/50 everyone would be chanting "wheel sucker", but cut the kid some slack considering how much better he rode than 98% of the "favorites"

Stybar looked the strongest out of all of them- he was my pick to win minus his bad luck. I don't think it was experience either- a bunch of riders got clipped by fans while in the gutter, however, his overshot turns were costly.

Maybe looked. But if he was really the strongest, he should have been able to close a 5-10second gap, no?
He was very clever to follow Fabian very closely everywhere. He even appeared to be fighting for his wheel with Vanmarcke one time just prior to his misfortune.
I was thinking maybe Stybar would have been displaced in the slight uphill attack, where Sep just about held on.
Or perhaps not, it's a real shame we didn't get to see that.
