No back-dating for Ballan, though? Do the national ADAs have free reign in whether they back-date or not? Not sure it would be a good idea, though, but some international consistency would be desirable.

Good news for Horner. Patience pays off. And he gets to ride a very nice bike:
Bad news for Ballan. I've always liked him. If he was doing ozone therapy, that's long been considered a borderline treatment, not universally viewed as doping.
It's sort of like the 5-second rule in cooking. If the food's on the floor for less than 5 seconds, was it actually dropped on the floor?

Simon Clarke's Nationals power, thanks to Nick.

One question about the FTP - did you derive that from the ride stats alone, or is that actually his FTP? I think your comments implied the former; any idea what his FTP really is?

Link? Lampre seem to be denying it for the moment as far as I can see.

Until a deal's 100 percent done, it's not done. Nothing on Horner's twitter https://twitter.com/hornerakg as of yet. As they say, close only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and nuclear weapons.http://velonews.competitor.com/2014/01/news/horner-linked-to-lampre-deal_313765 wrote:Published Jan. 16, 2014

American Chris Horner is poised to sign with the Italian Lampre-Merida squad, sources close to the situation have told VeloNews.
...
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to the deal between Horner and Lampre said the contract was “essentially 100-percent done.”
Horner looking every bit his age, and then some. I suppose being gaunt contributes.

I saw this too, and a pointless way to guesstimate at his FTP.

I threw it in there so that it would set the zones (even though they would not be correct) and illustrate how the course design did not permit really settling in threshold for any decent amount of time. In fact, the profile more closely resembles a crit than a road race. Which, when you take in to account the vert that also needs to be gotten over, is certainly what makes it so brutal.
For power experts out there it's a 'pointless' figure (and I did try to glean a more accurate FTP, without a great deal of success), however still served a bit of a purpose.
Frank Schleck and see-through jerseys.... wrong, just wrong.

If it keeps them cool and helps reduce the effects of extreme temperature I see no issue.

Nice article, TP. I have a real love/hate relationship with reading about professional cyclists' power data!
