Watching ToC highlights, what's up with no one wearing heart rate monitors anymore?

Can you mention anything similar in pro racing in the last 30 years?

The first thing that comes to mind for me is that insane causeway they use in the TdF which is slick as goose shit because riders cross it just after the tide goes our revealing the surface from beneath the waves. I recall a major, GC-affecting crash happening there a few years ago and the leaders storming on showing no mercy to anyone who fell.

@xnavalav8r - Was this the crash you were thinking of?

I think he is talking about Passage du Gois. I believe Armstrong rode about it in one of his books. The importance of staying in the front, and how they kept on riding, even thoug they heard the crashes.

Who here thinks Cadel will hold his lead until the end and/or win the GC?
Don't take me too seriously. The only person that doesn't hate Froome.

Giro commentators talking about carbon wheels and their shitty braking during the crash. I'm pretty sure we will see everyone using discs in 2017.

It wasn't just the braking surface on carbon rims, but rather the wet greasy Italian roads!

Yeah, but still the biggest factor. With discs all the problems will be gone :)

Barring any major crashes or issues (poorly timed mechanical etc..) I think he might be able to. With Purito gone and a bunch of others banged up he might be able to hold onto it...

No it's not. You don't see nearly as many crashes in wet conditions on northern roads. Just look at the Bari stage. Discs wouldn't have solved anything there.

Also wheels will get better once the sidewall doesn't have to act as a braking surface. It's just evolution of cycling and anyone who says discs will not be standard in the future is clueless.
