matthews in sporza interview said it was clean and was beat fair and square by gilbert (rhymes, hehe). Matthews seems like an upstanding bloke. I just wish he'd take out his eyebrow piercing, that's up there with boonen's tribal tattoos.

He was racing in Belgium, the one who passed him is a local hero.....how would you dare to say it was "dirty"?
It wasnt dangerous at all but changed a lot his line.

if by clean and upstanding you mean having a worse clubbing habit than Boonen and self-assigning the name Bling with having a worse back tattoo than Boonen's tribal then I am basically the model citizen in comparison haha.

What is it that bothers you? Have you seen his interviews, spoken to him in person?
He is basically a class A Southern California-esque frat boy. Its a personality type that, having lived in CA and gone to college in the Southwest, I cannot stand.
Anecdotally a friend of mine is a photographer/journalist for a popular cycling website and spent significant time around him at ToC and Tour of Utah the past two years and witnessed some terrible drunken frat bro behavior that reinforced what I noted above. It doesn't matter if he rides bikes or fights MMA I can't stand people like that so its more of a personal thing than anything.

I've seen a lot worse than the Cav crash. I also think Cav should have been a bit more attentive. Some of the sprints in the 70's were amazingly rough. handslings, jersey pulling, elbows in the ribs. Then you've got the Abdu era!

Don't ask me where I read it, but I am sure one of the top guys told cycling news he cracked his rim in Wallers, and while he couldn't brake, he could still ride it and changed bikes/wheels after the pavé.
