while cancellara pulls off another really impressive victory, I think the most impressive ride of the day goes to van marcke. chapeau to him , especially the way he worked with cancellara to the end and just lost by a whisker. I think he earned alot of respect today.

Well, maybe. A weird respect though, cause the GC of respect or street credit hasn't been invented yet. I think he should have sucked cancellara's wheel as much as possible, to save energy, and win him on a final sprint with a decent track tactic, again, sucking cancellara's wheel, not like he did starting at the front and drafting cancellara to the win...

as for yours, respect and tactics don't have to correlate. i agree with you that he should have let FC take the favorite role more, but then there is also personal pride. nevertheless, his performance - being only 24 years old - is pretty impressive and deserves a lot of respect, regardless of his tactics in the end of the race. as for tactics, it was a very smart move to escape with Stijn at the moment FC was closing the gap with the leading group. that's how he stayed in front until the end.

Disagree. Pro cycling is about PR, generating good image of sponsors. You don't do that by being a wheel-sucking leech. Gerrans win @ MSR last year only disgusted me...did nothing to make me want a Scott. It's not just about winning...its about earning respect doing so as well.

Boy you missed Stybar's antics.

Quickstep had their tactics pretty dead on at one point before Stijn and Stybar blew it. Would've been a very interesting finale if not, oh well.

For all the Trek haters out there, I think that's now all 5 monuments and all 3 GTs

You want to ride outside the gutter and mix it up w/fans; you get what you get. Spart & Sep were well inside. Chalk it up to inexperience.

It was not too nice to see Sep throw away his race. I just don't get it. Leading way too much, and leading out the sprint too. It was bad to watch.
