Weight Weenies

I just ordered a set of Stronglight rings to replace the stock ones that came with my Force crankset (for aesthetic reasons, mostly). Is there a specific orientation for the chainrings relative to the crank arms, or can I just slap them on any which way?

They only go on one way. The chain drop pin dictates the big ring position, while the notch in the small ring does the same. Aesthetically, I think the force ones are nicer, because the base of the "feet" on the ct2s are wider than the spider arms on the cranks.

Just received my CT2 outer ring and I see the two holes where the chain drop pin should be. Am I supposed to remove the one from the SRAM rings I have and screw it into the new one?

You should have got one with the chainring (I did with my CT2 ring)

No pin in my package, just the outer ring.

you don't need the chain drop pin, my rings didn't come with it either

just line it up so the pin hole is behind the crank arm

pretty sure the sram one won't fit, the sram one i think is just pushed in, the ct2 one is threaded

What notch in the small ring? I just put ct2 rings on. My big ring did come with a pin to screw in. I lined that up with the crankarm. For the small ring, though, I didn't see anything to indicate orientation, so I just lined up the logos with the big ring.

Stronglight Rings do not come with the pin. I never needed the pin there anyway, I know its purpose but never needed it.

What's this pin you speak of? I unbolted my old rings, bolted these on and was done with it. Pretty damn easy. With the KMC chain they are super quiet and shift really well.

The pin stops the chain getting jammed betwwen the arm and the ring if the chain ever overshoots. CT2 rings don't have one fitted in the factory, but stapled to the packaging. Very easy to miss and throw away unfortunately!

No, but a very timely bump as mine arrived today. Small plastic bag stapled to the inside of the cardboard sleeve...
