Disc brakes are the future in BMX. Tons of bikes over here in Europe with discs. My favorite is the Josh Bicycles version.

Here's another pro sized cruiser I built up last week. Nothing fancy with this one but still weighs 8.66 kg. A little bit a titanium and carbon fiber here and there. It's my main bike that I ride and it's super fast with 36-13 gearing.

Damn dude, these are awesome. You're making me want to build one now. I've been thinking about building a simple BMX that I can use when riding with my son. Any kind of weight limit on this?

I built this Dyno up a few years ago, but it weighs more than a tank.

It's all about power-to-weight... tanks are not such a big deal for us adults.

Not really a 'weight weenie' but i did knock off a pound with upgraded seatpost (Thomson Masterpiece) and some lighter Paul brakes. Along with a few tiny bits of titanium here and there. A touch over 26 pounds now (11.88kg)

Legend, is it a 24in Cruiser?
I heard X10-X11 Chains fit, but it didn't appear to sit in the Chainwheel on my sons bike too well. It a 20in Mongoose. Just fiddling around we have got it down to 12.54kg. From 13.70kg. Am in need of a Hub for the rear, but not really sure which way to go.

I am a big fan of Alienation hubs. They are actually made by American Classic. Beautifully made, perform perfectly.

We've been using X10SL chains on all our bikes without issue. However, as noted, they don't play nicely with all BMX cogs. I used Dura Ace cogs on the rear with standard Answer BMX chainrings. No problems.

That Ted, I was hoping you'd share some insight. As I know you've done a lot of research for your Boy's bikes. I've heard good things about Alienation Hubs from a few ppl. Just wasn't sure how they stacked up weight wise. But after a little searching, it looks like they will do the job nicely.
Thanks again.
Happy New Year.

For the chain we'd recommend the X9SL, virtually the same weight as the X10SL or X11SL, but the added width is bonus with some cogs. Weight varies based on the length you need, but typically they're around 200-210 grams cut to length. We put Corben Sharrah on one last year and he's been through the world championships, 2 world cups, a couple nationals and grands on it, all without any issues.

For the grips I tend to avoid lockon's since they add so much weight. I recommend either the Lizard skins which are a tape on or a standard foam grip like Kcnc/Extralite, but installed with a few drops of tubular tire glue.

Here's what we did for Corben, not silly light, but at under 15 pounds it's about as light as you can go for one of the strongest pro riders in the sport.

Wow Madcow, now that is definitely the nicest BMX I have ever seen.
Using a x9sl for the extra width is a handy tip.
Any chance of a break down of the parts used for this build? And weights?
Haha, I'm probably pushing it now.
Cheers Ken.

We also did a 2nd bike for him which was virtually the same but with a white frame instead of black. A slightly different gear ratio and low profile rims for outdoor tracks.
