I like the older Mapei version just for that bit of extra white...

By paint job you really have to ignore everyones posts which seem more about 'decals' than actual paint. I always really liked the late 80's Colnago Master paint job. Simple, but always looked great in sunlight as it was all mica/pearl fades.

Actually the C40's from 2001-2003 were actual paint jobs. I have both the Geo and the Mapei version.
The 1992 Colnago Master I recently acquired has a lot of decals and a fade paint job of silver and red.

Out of curiosity  how common nowadays are the Mapei frames?

I can honestly say there's not very many more frames that I would currently consider buying, but this is certainly one of them.

Is it simply a matter of keeping an eye out for them on Ebay, etc?

Yeah, quite a few come up... but mainly Dreams (the alloy frames) the C50s are a bit more unusual... A mob recently ordered 20 odd frames (I think that is the minimum) in the Mapei colors in the EPS frame type and I think they sold. They weren't cheap though.

Where were they ordered? At Colnago or Maestro?

Maestro in the UK gets his frames painted in Belgium and can offer a wide variety of finishes including discontinued schemes including Mapei on request.

Thank you, I know what Mike at Maestro does. I asked TMK001 if the order was at Maestro.

R&A Cycles in New York had Colnago run up a bunch of EPS with the last Mapei paint scheme (at least their site implies it got them from Ernesto). Here's a link:

http://www.racycles.com/road/road-frame ... meset.aspx

I just bought a C40 with the same paint (except black fork) on EBay. It should be here next week. Actually, my favourite Colnago paint job is the older Mapei one with a lot of white. I have a Tecnos painted that way but it's -16 here and I don't want to go out to the garage, pull it down and take a picture.

Even though I eventually tired of it, I also have a soft spot for the original C40 paint job that I had for 11 years - the one Ballerini had when he won Roubaix in 1995. The pic is too big to add here, but here's a link to Museeuw's 96 bike:

Why is Zabel's head so rectangular?? I do love yours though CC.

c50 - can't recall seeing many of those c40's around! Very nice!

Honestly, has there been a team with frames as dapper as Mapei? I struggle to think of one.

Is Ernesto grimacing at the thought of all that Shimano all over Zabel's bike?
