This past winter I've bought a pair of Castelli Sorpasso tights; very nicely made, fit is top notch but as I'm increasing my hours on saddle I realised that the pad is much thinner than other bibs/thights I've used in past and not really that confortable for longer rides for my preferences.

And here there's the question; are all the top end models of Castelli using rather thin pads? Do they use any thicker pad?
Thanks.

"thicker pad": look for "Progetto X2".

Yes, +1 for the Progetto pad. Very comfortable.

The Progetto X2 is the pad that’s in the Sorpasso tights.

To the OP, I really like the cut and design of Castelli in general, but for long days out I’m more likely to reach for some Fizik or Assos shorts, or any other brand that uses a top level pad from Elastic Interface. It’s just that but more supportive.

Sorry, can't help in this case, for me the Progetto X2 is way too thick already.

[edited... mistook the previous reply as from the original poster; but AFAICT there's no mentioning of "Progetto" in the original question...]

It would have been nice if you had mentioned that in the first posting.
A) That was my first post in this thread.

B) The OP did mention it.

For longer rides I would personally recommend you to check also the Assos bib (+ leg warmers) and tights. Depending on the temperature Assos has different models (Tiburu, Habu, Bonka). And sometimes also different fit (Cento, Equipe etc...). Their products are IMHO the best in the market (much better quality than Castelli or Rapha) but their product line is not easy to understand because of the many options that they offer and their strange product names. Pricing is high but worth it. And Assos is "almost" Italian for you as it is from Ticino in Switzerland.

Hehehe yeah. Almost Italian in geography, VERY Germanic in design :P

Bloody good stuff though. Better construction and better chamois than Castelli, though Castelli still has a lot to like.

Yes their design is not really Italian at all indeed!

I personally like however their ProfBlack series design that has neither the name of the brand or a distinctive pattern on the cloth.
You pay more but it is worth it to me (compared to Castelli, Rapha etc... where the logo and/or a distinctive pattern is everywhere on the clothes)
Here for example their black series jackets for the winter and early winter:
