Traveling for Giro stages 9, 10 and 13

I found airfare at a very decent price to Milan during the Giro. My girlfriend and I are planning to watch stages 9,10 and 13. We're super excited to get back to Milan for a visit.

I think the circuit race in Milan will be an awesome spectacle - kind of like the Tour in London. Any thoughts on spectating for the Cuneo to Pinerolo stage? I've never been to that area of France/Italy so any advice is welcome.

I'm flying an Alitalia flight and hoping to bring my bike. The cost seems to be €20 each way; has anyone had experience with this?

Also - I'm starting to research rides and places to base from in the area. Any ideas would be great, thanks.
